Raccoon knocks out power to 43,000 people in Tennessee after causing a massive explosion at a substation

A huge explosion at a Tennessee power plant plunged more than half of West Knoxville Tennessee into a blackout early Thursday morning. And authorities say that the explosion was caused by a raccoon.

A spokesperson for the Knoxville Utility Board (KUB) told Knox News that the raccoon caused the massive 43,000 customer blackout because it was at an 'infeed' substation which routes electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority to several KUB substations.
