Rod Stewart has playfully hinted that his pal Elton John's widely-discussed retirement is a marketing ploy to sell tickets.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with host Andy Cohen and Cyndi Lauper on Wednesday, the legendary host asked his thought's on Elton's big announcement to which he gave a cheeky response.

The Maggie May hitmaker, 73, said: 'I did email (Elton) and said: "What, again dear?" And I didn’t hear anything back... I don’t think this big deal of saying "I’m going to retire" is good, it stinks of selling tickets!'
After touching on Elton's retirement, he also vowed not to do the same himself as he insisted her would merely 'fade away' when he wanted to end his career
Cyndi - Tour - Rod - Concerts - June
Cyndi, who sets out on tour with Rod for 30 concerts in June, wasn't as against the notion as her colleague
She said: 'That’s not a bad idea, we could say "For the last time, retiring" then again we say "OK, maybe the second to last time we retire".' But Rod was quick to shoot her down, saying: 'It’s dishonest, it’s not rock and roll.'

Aside from the retirement news, Rod jumped to the defence of his long-time pal, Sir Elton, after he stormed off stage in Las Vegas earlier this month.
He explained while he loves fans joining him during his performances he can see why the singer, 70, found the situation frustrating.

Stewart said: 'I don’t mind it, I love people coming up on stage, and it’s a laugh, but I can see why he got p****d off with it.
'I sort of understand because the person kept going like that,' he continued, before repeatedly tapping Cyndi on the shoulder to copy the frustrating fan.
