Lady by Styx is used as a touching ode to Lindsay from Nick on Freaks and Geeks, and it’s kind of corny really since you get this feeling that Lindsay really doesn’t know how to react. It’s obvious that Nick is trying to be different, to be a little more tender and sensitive, but Lindsay just looks a little creeped out, and for good reason since most guys at that age would probably say “yes” if she asked them if they wanted to make out. But obviously Nick is wanting something deeper, something more meaningful, but is going about it in one of the clunkiest, clumsiest ways possible. There are moments when you can use songs to drive home the point you want to make to someone, but your timing has to be just exact or it won’t work the way you want it to.

In this case Nick is kind of off the mark. His sentiment is great and the idea that he and Lindsay could share something deeper could be possible but the act doesn’t seem to sit well with Lindsay, who looks like she might want to be anywhere else. Some women just don’t go in for the big gestures and candlelight that can make others swoon. Plus there’s a time and place for all of it and in the basement just doesn’t seem like the best bet most times. Romance on this level needs to be built up to, not just sprung on someone without any warning...
