An armed officer stood by at the Parkland Florida school shooting and did “nothing” while 17 people were slaughtered, reported Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel on Thursday. Deputy Scot Peterson resigned after a surveillance video surfaced, which showed him standing outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for nearly four minutes during the six-minute massacre.

And this is just the latest in a growing list of failures and missed signs that could have stopped the school shooter before he ever had the chance to take 17 lives.

The Miami Herald reported that the Broward County Sheriff’s Office was tipped off in November that the Parkland shooter “could be a school shooter in the making” but apparently deputies failed to even write up a report.
