At least 15 people were killed Wednesday when a shooter opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Fla., according to reports.

Scott Israel, the Broward County sheriff, described the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as “catastrophic,” and said 14 people were transported to local hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. While he said multiple people were pronounced dead, Israel did not say exactly how many.

Follow-up reports from CNN and ABC News in the early evening said at least 15 people were dead.

Shooter - Coral - Springs - Fla - Officer

The shooter was found alive in Coral Springs, Fla., by a police officer with the Coconut Creek Police Department. He was taken into custody.

Multiple people were pronounced dead, though Israel did not say exactly how many.
