Stars React To Florida High School Shooting, Numerous Fatalities Reported

Multiple fatalities have been reported in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The shooting suspect is now in custody.

Deputies from the Coral Springs Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at 5901 Pine Island Rd. at 3:15 p.m. local time.

Broward - County - Sheriff - Scott - Israel

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters during a press conference that there were multiple fatalities, but declined to confirm the number.

Israel said the suspect is a former student of the high school and approximately 18 years old. “He was taken into arrest without incident,” he said.

He didn’t give details of when the suspect had attended the school. But the sheriffs says the suspect wasn’t currently enrolled.

Israel also said the FBI has stepped in and will begin processing what he describes as “horrific scene.”


“This is a terrible day … This is catastrophic,” he added.

Robert Runcie, superintendent with the Broward County Public Schools, and Florida Sen. Bill Nelso also told media there had been several fatalities.

“There are numerous fatalities. It’s a horrific situation,” Runcie told reporters. He said that there was no evidence of more than one shooter. “It is a horrible day for us,” he added.

The Broward County Sheriff’s office tweeted around 4:30 p.m. local time that there were approximately “14 victims” that were being transported to hospitals in the area.
