A pair of skiers have found a creative way to use free time at the Winter Olympics by creating their own unusual sporting events.

The Swiss competitors in Pyeongchang filmed themselves as they tried such bizarre sports as hanging from an escalator rail on its way up and using a pallet box as a sled.

The alternative Olympic events were posted on Instagram by freestyle skier Fabian Bösch and have been viewed almost half a million times.

In the escalator video Bösch and his teammate Jonas Hunziker are wrapped up warmly in jackets and woolly hats.

While Hunziker heads upstairs, the 20-year-old Bösch puts his hand on the moving handrail and lets it lift his feet off the floor on its way up.
