Police officer adopts pit bull puppy that was rescued shivering from a freezing river

A pit bull that was rescued from a freezing cold river last month has found a new home with a local police officer.

Temperatures were below freezing the morning Daytona Beach, Florida police officers John Pearson and James Lee rescued a pit bull puppy from the waters underneath the Seabreeze bridge.

Video shows the officers drying the puppy off and trying to warm it up in their squad car.

They eventually took the dog to a shelter, which nursed the puppy back to health. While at the facility, the puppy was given the apt name 'River'.
