Too many singles pass their days wishing they were married.

Single - Girls - Wedding - Day - Pictures

Single girls can dream of their wedding day by pinning pretty pictures on their Pinterest boards just in case they happen upon a relationship tomorrow. Bachelors can twirl their thumbs by designing a mental timeline for the next potential candidate. Whether people are hanging paper lights on a virtual alter, or calculating the perfect proposal for the mystery Mrs., something is missing.

Oddly enough, many couples believe the false idea that the season they are experiencing is actually a session in purgatory. Instead of enjoying each phase of their relationship and using it to grow in godliness, many people waste this portion of their life because they view it as a hindrance. Dating and engagement are often treated as a necessary obstacle to marriage.

Discontentment - Couples - Fever - Irony - Thickens

I can’t help but notice that discontentment gives some couples a low-grade fever that is contagious. The irony thickens because married people can be just as restless in their dreams. I once heard a friend say he wished he was single in order to have more time to read, study, serve, and spend for the kingdom. He is not alone. Yet the greatest irony is that these restless married people were likely just as disgruntled when they were single!

Notice the inevitable cycle: discontent singles become discontent marrieds. The season of dating and engagement are just canals in between.

Problem - Season - Life - Marriage - Status

The problem is not our season of life, our marriage status, or any of our circumstances. The issue is the contentment of the heart. There are many discontented relationships that become discontented marriages and I don’t want you to be in that number. The good news is that there is a...
