After more than two months in hospital the last survivor of the Sutherland Springs church massacre returned home today in a fire truck.

Ryland Ward, 6 was shot when a gunman stormed the rural First Baptist Church on November 5, in Texas which was deemed the worst in the state's histoy.

The young boy had been recovering from his injuries in San Antonio University Hospital for months.

But he rode home in style in a bright red fire truck from the Wilson County Fire Department.

Volunteer - Firefighter - Rusty - Duncan - ABC

Volunteer firefighter Rusty Duncan told ABC News was a first responder that day, and he was the one who found Ryland and pulled him to safety.

He said: 'Ryland's hand reached out from under his stepmom and grabbed my pant leg. I rolled her over and grabbed him and started running outside with him.'
