Missouri house fire which killed a 96-year-old woman may have been caused by the electric blanket she used during the cold snap

Investigators believe an electric blanket may have caused a fire which killed a 96-year-old woman during the cold snap in Missouri.

Lucille West died on Friday at a local hospital after she was found unconscious on her couch at her home in Lone Jack.

She lived across the street from the fire department and firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly.

However, the smoke and flames proved to be too intense for the elderly woman to survive.

'She had limited sources of heat within her house,' Fire Chief David Kelsey said to FOX 4.

'She was using a natural gas space heater and some other electric heaters and a few electric blankets to keep warm at night.'

Officials have confirmed there were no smoke detectors in her house....
