Creepy wasp from New Zealand is named after 'redeemed' Harry Potter villain Lucius Malfoy

A Harry Potter fan has named a wasp after the 'redeemed' villain Lucius Malfoy to show the insects are not as bad as we think.

The harmless wasp Lusius malfoyi lives in New Zealand and is known for its pale colouring.

Student - People - Majority - Play - Roles

The student who named it says he wants people to understand the majority of wasps play critical roles in ecosystems and very few pose any risk to humans.

Entomologist and Harry Potter fan Tom Saunders named the parasitoid wasp as part of his masters study at Auckland University.

Lucius - Malfoy - Villain - Harry - Potter

Lucius Malfoy seems like a villain throughout the Harry Potter series until the final book when he abandons Voldemort and testifies against the Dark Lord's supporters.

Mr Saunders wanted to show that like silver-haired Lucius Malfoy, many wasps have bad reputations but they are actually good creatures.

Malfoy - Kind - Redeemed - Kind - Atones

'Lucius Malfoy is kind of redeemed, he kind of atones for his sins,' Mr Saunders told the Guardian.

'And I want to redeem the reputation of wasps, because at the moment people have a negative association of them, and they have bad memories from childhood...
