Exhibiting an air of wisdom and slightly wiry fur, a moving new photo series captures dogs in their later years.

Nancy LeVine, a photographer from New York, spent 12 years travelling across America taking portraits of pooch pensioners.

Subjects - Miss - Sadie - Tenakee - Alaska

One of her older subjects was Miss Sadie from Tenakee, Alaska. The 22-year-old hound was shot in black-and-white peering out of the window at home with a wistful expression on her face.

Another elderly mutt model was Rex from Seattle, Washington.

Dog - Portrait - Bed - Coat - Colour

The little white dog is seen in his portrait lying flat out on a bed with his aging coat taking on a slightly yellow colour.

LeVine told MailOnline Travel that she found her subjects through vets, friends and families.

Rescue - Groups - Sanctuaries - Residents

Rescue groups and sanctuaries also put forward some of their elderly residents.

The dog lover explained that she 'loved' working on the project and unlike puppies, the seniors were very easy to photograph in their catatonic states.
