A Michigan teacher claims she was fired after school administrators ignored complaints that she was being sexually harassed by a special education student.

Melissa Sawicki, 36, is suing the school district claiming a student with special needs started making crude comments and lewd gestures to her shortly after she started working at Bay City Western High School in 2013.

Sawicki's lawsuit against Bay City Public Schools, filed in September last year, alleges the issue first arose when a 16-year-old boy unbuttoned his shirt and started rubbing his nipples in front of her.

She claims she sent the male student to the office but his behavior was disregarded.

Months later in January 2014, the same boy waited for her after class and 'cupped his hand under his chest as if he were holding breasts, and said, 'I want to talk to you about your melons,' while he stared at Ms Sawicki's chest,' the lawsuit alleges.

Sawicki claims she learned the student had been given a one-day suspension after she followed up with the assistant principal.

She said she told the assistant principal she was 'creeped out' and the punishment wasn't sufficient.

Sawicki later met with the assistant principal and principal where she claims to have told them she wasn't comfortable around the student because of his 'continuous sexual comments.'
