Disney Plus: Launch dates, prices, preorders, movies and shows to expect

Disney has called it the future of the company: Disney Plus. It's the entertainment giant's upcoming streaming service for almost everything it creates, taking on Netflix as well as a new crop of rivals like Apple TV Plus and HBO Max. Disney Plus will be the exclusive home to stream theatrical blockbusters from Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and Disney's own studios.

Disney also is ramping up a slate of original shows and movies based on those brands and others. Chief among them is a big-budget Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian. Disney Plus has been hyping the launch with trailers and a marketing onslaught.

Less than a week away from launching Disney Plus, Disney has been dropping surprise news about the service in the run-up.

On Wednesday, Disney pushed up the availability date to stream mega-blockbuster Avengers: Endgame; it'll now be available to stream on Nov. 12 when the service launches in the US, Canada and the Netherlands, a month earlier than planned. Previously, the company said Endgame would join Disney Plus' library on Dec. 11.

Then Thursday, Disney announced that it had broadened device support to Amazon Fire TV streaming devices, which had been a gaping hole when the company first revealed a list of suppoerted devices in August. Disney also announced support for Samsung and LG products. And the company revealed March 31 as the Western European launch date for Disney Plus, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and a number of other countries in the region.

And a couple weeks earlier, Disney made waves announcing a deal with Verizon to give the carrier's unlimited wireless customers a free year of Disney Plus when it launches.
