HBO dominates 2019 Primetime Emmys but 'Fleabag' biggest individual winner

HBO reclaimed its crown at this year’s Primetime Emmy awards on Sunday (September 22) night, with Game Of Thrones taking the best drama series award as expected but adding only one other prize to its haul on the night.

Fleabag, from Amazon and the BBC, provided most of the surprises and was the biggest winner on the night. It earned four prizes including comedy series, lead actress and writing for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and directing for Harry Bradbeer. Veep, a frequent Emmy winner in previous years, was completely shut out.

Months - Impasse - Writers - Guild - America

Six months into the impasse between the Writers Guild of America and the major agencies, most of the winning writers did not thank their agents. Besides that, the host-less 71st Primetime Emmy Awards show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles was free of controversy.

Patricia Arquette, winner of the supporting actress in a limited series for The Act, made a plea for more employment for transgender talents and Jharrel Jerome, who took the lead actor in a limited series prize for When They See Us, drew applause for introducing the ‘Exonerated Five,’ subjects of the series, who are sometimes known as the Central Park Five.
