Oregon resident's lung illness death may be second fatality linked to vaping, officials say

An unnamed individual in Oregon died of lung illness related to vaping, state officials reported Tuesday.

The person died in July after developing 'severe respiratory illness.'

Doctors - Individual - Cannabis - Prior - Illness

Doctors say that the individual had been vaping cannabis purchased from a dispensary prior to their illness.

This death follows the first reported from vaping-related illness in Illinois last week and, if both are confirmed, the Oregon death will be the second of over 200 US cases of mysterious lung disease cases to turn fatal.

'We - Cause - Illnesses - Contaminants - Ingredients

'We don't yet know the exact cause of these illnesses - whether they're caused by contaminants, ingredients in the liquid or something else, such as the device itself,' said Dr Ann Thomas, public health physician at Oregon Health Authority's Public Health Division.

The implication, however, is that health officials suspect something in e-cigarettes is causing sometimes deadly illness.

Officials - Centers - Disease - Control - Prevention

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are working with health departments in at least 25 states to determine how e-cigarettes are triggering these illnesses.
