Central US braces for severe storms and flash flooding while temperatures plummet in the North East

Severe weather has been predicted to strike parts of the central US this weekend, while the North East will be treated to a fall preview.

Storms hitting the central Plains, from Oklahoma to Nebraska, are expected to intensify Saturday and into Sunday, while flash flood watches have been issued for areas in Kansas and Nebraska, according to ABC News.

National - Weather - Service - Warnings - Nebraska

The National Weather Service has also issued flood warnings in central Nebraska.

'These thunderstorms will pose a hail, damaging wind and isolated tornado risk as they first ignite later in the afternoon. Damaging winds will become the primary threat overnight,' AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said.

Storms - Sunday - Monday - Weather - System

Additional storms are expected to hit Sunday and Monday as the weather system heads east.

The storms are thought to bring with them more than four inches of heavy rain through Monday, impacting the area from Kansas to Alabama, which raises additional concerns of flash flooding there.
