Practical Magic prequel series in the works from HBO which will focus on the aunts

HBO has revealed it has a Practical Magic prequel series in the works.

The drama series will be titled The Rules of Magic and adapted from Alice Hoffman’s books The Rules of Magic and Practical Magic.

Hoffman - Practical - Magic - Basis - Movie

Hoffman's Practical Magic served as the basis for the 1998 movie starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.

HBO has given a pilot production commitment for the one-hour drama and opened a writers room for a 10-script order.

Series - New - York - City - 1960s

The series is to be set in New York City in the 1960s and follow three troubled siblings; Franny, Jet and Vincent Owens.

The trio, two sisters and one brother, wrestle with 'abnormalities' that have isolated them only to discover that they are descendants of a bloodline of witches.

Variety - Sisters - Aunts - Practical - Magic

According to Variety, the sisters will become revered and sometimes feared aunts in Practical Magic and the brother, Vincent, will leave an unexpected legacy.

In the movie Kidman and Bullock's aunts were portrayed by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing.
