Investigators say a man running for the Mississippi state House has taken his own life after shooting his wife to death at a medical clinic where she was a receptionist after he was served with divorce papers.
Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says Democrat Carl Robinson shot his estranged wife, Latoya Thompson, 34, then killed himself Tuesday at Williams Medical Clinic in Potts Camp.

Witnesses saw the 43-year-old politician pacing up and down outside the building before the apparent murder-suicide occurred around 10am.
The couple reportedly had at least one child together.

'We found the shooter dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head,' Dickerson told the Daily Journal newspaper.
'He and his wife were in the process of a divorce. His wife was lying on the floor near his body.'

Authorities recovered a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol at the scene.
Colleagues attempted CPR on Thompson.

The sheriff says Thompson had a pulse at the scene but she died as emergency workers were trying to put her on a medical helicopter.
Nobody else was hurt.
