Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens has died, according to ABC News. He was 99.

Stevens served on the country's top court for 35 years, the third-longest stint in US history.

Bench - Elena - Kagan - Appointee - Barrack

He served on the bench from 1975 through to 2010, when he was replaced by Elena Kagan, an appointee under former-President Barrack Obama.

No date or cause of death has been immediately reported.

Stevens - Issues - Women - Right - Abortion

Stevens influenced issues that including women's right to abortion, protecting consumers and placing limits on the death penalty.

He also led the high court's decision to allow terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay to plead for their freedom in U.S. courts
