Amazon and its recently acquired doorbell camera company Ring supported local authorities in Colorado in running an elaborate package theft sting operation that yielded no arrests.

In their efforts to assist, the home security company provided feedback to the Aurora Police Department in Colorado about public statements related to its 'package theft prevention initiative.'

GPS - Company - Solutions - US - Postal

GPS tracking company 7P Solutions and the US Postal Service Inspection Service also collaborated in what the Aurora Police internally called 'Operation Grinch Grab,' Vice News' Motherboard vertical reported after reviewing documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

When Amazon does participate in these local efforts to deter package theft, it is at the behest of local law enforcement and not an endeavor initiated by the online giant.

'We appreciate the effort by local law enforcement to tackle package theft in their communities, and we remain committed to assisting them in their efforts however we can,' a spokesperson for the company told DailyMail.com.

As part of its program, Ring reportedly provided Aurora police with 15 doorbell camera devices to use as it saw fit in its operation, which police offered to residents in exchange for participating in the program.

'Local resident volunteers were given the option to receive a donated Ring device or use their existing system in the hopes that helpful footage captured would be shared with our department,' Aurora Police Department captain Matthew Wells-Longshore told Vice.

A spokesperson for Ring told DailyMail.com: 'We believe that when residents and law enforcement work together, we can help create safer communities. As we continue on our mission to make neighborhoods safer, we support law enforcement’s efforts to educate the community and prevent instances of crimes like package theft.'
