A new see-through bikini design is pushing the boundaries of style and subtlety by allowing women to bare almost everything, while maintaining a sliver of modesty courtesy of a built-in 'censor bar' that lies across the nipples.
The two-piece swimsuit, which is the brainchild of trendy Los Angeles-based brand Cult Gaia and is described on the company's website as a 'strapless tulle bikini top with tortoise acrylic details', has left shoppers baffled, with many questioning whether the quirky style can even be worn in water.
Design - Fashion - Fans - Heads - Swimsuit
And it's not just the design that has fashion fans scratching their heads: the swimsuit, which is called the 'Shalese Bikini' and is described as 'an ode to tropical surrealism', also retails for a whopping $590.
Its description on Cult Gaia's website reads: 'Our first Swim Collaboration with Brazilian designer Adriana Degreas.
Collaboration - Mix - Brands - West - Coast
'This collaboration is a mix of both brands, West Coast Lifestyle and chic Brazilian flair. An ode to tropical surrealism.'
The bikini consists of a clear top that boasts a dark-colored bar that runs across the bikini top horizontally.
Bar - Sheets - Tortoise - Shell - Acrylic
The bar, which appears to be made from individual sheets of tortoise shell acrylic, has been strategically placed to cover the nipples.
Despite the thin bar, the rest of the bikini top is completely see-through.
Ties - Back - Pieces - Material
The bandeau-style top ties at the back with two fabric pieces, that appear to be a light pink-colored material.
The swimsuit top comes with a pair matching of light pink bikini bottoms that tie on both sides.
