Democratic presidential candidate and South Bend, Indiana, mayor Pete Buttigieg has attended a Peace Walk after facing criticism over a police shooting of a back man.

The third annual Peace Walk was hosted by Christ Temple Apostolic Church on Saturday in South Bend, as the funeral for Eric Logan was being held in nearby Mishawaka.

Logan, 54, was shot and killed by South Bend Police Sgt. Ryan O'Neill who was investigating a report of car break-ins in the area on June 16.

Police said that Logan lunged with a knife when he was shot, but O'Neill failed to activate his body-worn camera during the incident.

Peace - Walk - Shooting - Years - Basis

The Peace Walk was not directly related to the shooting, and has been held for the past two years on an annual basis.

The roughly 500-yard walk was followed by an outdoor prayer and music service, at which Buttigeig spoke.

Shooting - Message - Community

He did not directly reference the shooting, but delivered a message calling on the community to come together.

'Faith calls us to repay hurt with love,' he said. 'We come together around the hurt, like a bone we will mend to be stronger in the broken places.'
