Steve Scalise Pays Homage To The Police Who Saved His Life At Congressional Baseball Practice

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise revealed Wednesday that he is wearing a Capitol Police hat in honor of the two agents who were instrumental in stopping the shooting that occurred during a 2017 practice before the Congressional Baseball Game.

“David Bailey and Crystal Griner were my security detail that morning, my team leads,” Scalise said on “Fox and Friends.” “I’m wearing the Capitol Police hat in their honor. They sacrificed, both of them got hit in the shootout, kept going at it and took the shooter down.”



“They’re back, they’re both going to be here tonight,” he continued. “It’s special to have them back out again.”

Scalise was notably the subject of an assassination attempt after James Hodgkinson, a left-wing activist, opened fire while Republicans were practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game in June 2017. He was shot in the hip and gravely injured during the attack.
