A viral hoax has tricked some users into believing that Twitter will notify them if someone DMs their tweets.
Over the past few days, a tweet has been shared thousands of times claiming it's a new feature on the site.

The tweet got enough traction that Twitter was forced to publish a tweet debunking the rumor.
A tweet shared by user @Julian_Epp included a screenshot claiming to show his notifications, reading: 'Horse Girls For Bernie 2020 shared your Tweet in a Direct Message.'

The post was retweeted nearly 4,000 times and liked over 18,500 times.
Additionally, several accounts, including celebrity news site 'Pop Sirens,' shared the tweet and claimed it was news. The Pop Sirens account was later suspended from Twitter.
Response - Twitter - Support - Account - Rumor
In response, Twitter's Support account flatly denied the rumor.
'You might have heard chatter about a new update that sends you a notification when someone shares your Tweet in a Direct Message,' the firm said in a tweet.
