Couple say wedding plans are ruined by decision to move next year's May Day bank holiday for VE Day

An engaged couple have complained that next year's early May bank holiday, moved to accommodate Victory in Europe Day, will scupper their wedding plans.

May Day is traditionally held on a Monday, but will be put back to Friday, 8 May in 2020.

Disaster - Aherne - Anna - Cousins - Cardiff

This means minor disaster for some. Simon Aherne and Anna Cousins, from Cardiff, say that because of the move, they'll be lucky to get 20 guests at their ceremony in Kingscote Barn in Gloucestershire.

'Most of our family are teachers or in the entertainment business - so the bank holiday worked out perfectly for us,' Mr Aherne told the BBC.

The teacher and part-time DJ, and PR professional Ms Cousins were due to get married the day before the traditional bank holiday Monday.
