Cathay Pacific cabin crew have been caught stealing ice cream, champagne and even pieces of bread from flights.

The airline has launched a major crackdown after repeated thefts have cost it 'untold hundreds of millions' over the years.

Staff - Freezers - Home - Pots - Häagen-Dazs

Some staff are said to have freezers at home packed with pots of Häagen-Dazs ice cream served on flights.

Other items frequently stolen reportedly include pens, cutlery, wine glasses and wet wipes.

At least six flight attendants face possible disciplinary action after they were busted red-handed by security during random checks at Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday.

The cabin crew under investigation have varying levels of experience.

Cathay Pacific confirmed in a statement to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday that a number of staff are being investigated as the part of the airline's new crackdown.

'In view of an increasing number of reported losses of company property, we have informed our cabin crew that random inspections will be carried out,' the statement read.
