Family and friends are fearing for the life of a Denver man who has gone missing in one of the hotels that was targeted by terrorists in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

Dieter Kowalski, 40, has not been heard from since he landed in Sri Lanka early Sunday morning, a friend and a coworker told Fox 31 TV.

Kowalski - Island - Cinnamon - Grand - Colombo

Kowalski landed safely on the island and checked in to the Cinnamon Grand Colombo hotel at 3.45am on Sunday, a friend and coworker told the TV station. The hotel was hit by a bomb at around 8.30am, one of eight explosions that left more than 200 people dead.

The other attacks targeted churches and hotels.

Kowalski - Friends - Family - Information - Dieter

Kowalski’s friends and family have been trying to get information about Dieter from the hotel and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka.

His friends in Sri Lanka were unable to find a record of Kowalski in any of the area hospitals, according to Fox 31.

Aftermath - Attack - Sri - Lankan - Government

In the aftermath of the attack, the Sri Lankan government ordered the shutdown of social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter.

Kowalski’s friends and family hope that he is alive and that he has simply been unable to use these channels to get in touch with them.

'Dieter, check in when you can! We are all thinking of you!!' wrote a friend on Facebook.

Friends of Kowalski on Facebook wrote that he is also a citizen of Germany.

As such, they are in contact with officials at the German Embassy in an attempt to track down Kowalski.

Kowalski, a native of the Milwaukee suburb of Greenfield, graduated from the University of Wisconsin.
