If anyone was thinking Netflix and Amazon were going to take the pedal off the medal this Emmy season you were gravely mistaken. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” may currently look like insurmountable frontrunners in the Drama and Comedy Series categories, but the streaming giants aren’t acting like it. Over the span of the last 24 hours, both companies revealed their plans to once again give Emmy voters “experiences” that no other network has come close to attempting.
Amazon Prime Video is once again taking over the Hollywood Athletic Club in, obviously, Hollywood where it will showcase contenders such as “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Homecoming,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Romanoffs,” “Good Omens,” “Catastrophe” and “Fleabag.” This usually means Instagram friendly displays as well as props and exhibits depending on the program. A majority of those shows will have official Television Academy screenings and Q&As onsite as well as “A Very English Scandal,” “The Man in High Castle” and “Lorena.” Additionally, Amazon will host events such as a “Boss Brunch” panel on the subject of women shattering that glass ceiling in Hollywood and a discussion on stunt work “Jack Ryan’s” stunt coordinator, Jean Frenette. Space will be up and running from April 17-May 5.
