John Travolta recreates the iconic pose from Saturday Night Fever

It was the film that made him a household name in Hollywood.

And John Travolta, 65, was elated on Wednesday over the news that the soundtrack for 1977 hit Saturday Night Live has sold over 45 million copies worldwide.

Pose - Arm - Hand - Sky - Platinum

Recreating his iconic pose by stretching out his arm and pointing his hand towards the sky, he stood behind his 16 million certified Platinum U.S. RIAA Award.

Gushing about the achievement with fans, John wrote: 'Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother you’re stayin’ alive!! Thank you everyone!!

'I just received my 16 million certified Platinum U.S. RIAA Award for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, 45 million worldwide!'

The musical tells the story of Tony Manero, a 19-year-old working-class man who escapes the harsh realities of life by spending his weekends at the local discotheque.

Saturday Night Fever was produced by late Australian producer Robert Stigwood, and also spawned a hit soundtrack.
