An American Airlines flight to Los Angeles hit a sign during take off at JFK Wednesday night - taking a 'big chunk' off the wing and forcing it to return to the New York airport.
Flight 300 was in the air for more than 20 minutes before it circled back to the gate and landed safely shortly after 9pm.

She posted the image online, writing: 'Flight 300 out of JFK just emergency landed and there’s a big chunk out of the wing.'
Passenger Scott Laser told ABC7: 'The plane veered left when it hit something and then it took a sharp right turn at takeoff where I was on the right side of the plane and I was looking straight down at the ground.

The airline said the Airbus 321 had 'struck an object upon departure' and Port Authority confirmed it hit a sign on the runway during take off shortly after 8:30p.m.
