When Drew Barrymore signed up for the TV show Santa Clarita Diet in 2016, she was not in the best place of her life.
But the 44-year-old actress told Good Morning America on Monday the series turned out to be a bit of therapy for her after her split from third husband Will Kopelman.
Pounds - Life - Character - Beauty - Outfit
'I just thought, you know: "I'm 20 pounds overweight. My life is totally not where I thought it would be. I wanna put all this into this character,"' the beauty, who wore a red outfit, said.
She wed Will in 2012 and the divorced in 2016. The Santa Clarita Diet started airing in 2017.

And she was drawn to her character's personal life. 'So then I liked this sort of tone of this marriage, that although mine wasn’t working, I like to see things that are about a good relationship.'
Charlie - Angels - Star - 'Like - Gon
The Charlie's Angels star elaborated: 'Like, we’re all gonna try and practice that in our life, and whatever unconventional forms that is, love is love.
'And I hate seeing people fight. And Victor said: "I will never have this couple fight." And I’m like: "Then I’m in."'
Timothy - Olyphant - Show - Drew - Husband
Timothy Olyphant stars on the show as Drew's good-natured husband, who tries as best he can to adjust to his wife's newfound urge to eat people.
During her spot on Good Morning America, Drew remembered putting her career on hold 'for a while' in order to focus on her daughters Olive, six, and Frankie, four.
She recalled that...
