The people behind the pages tried to hide their identities as they engaged in "coordinated inauthentic behavior," Facebook's term for misinformation campaigns designed to deepen political divisions, cybersecurity policy boss Nathaniel Gleicher wrote in a blog post.
The social network pulled 687 pages and accounts connected to India's opposition Congress party days before the first phase of the country's general election on April 11. They mostly posted about political issues, criticized political opponents like Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and supported Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi.
