Sleeping soundly can often be hindered when a woman is about to start or is on her period because of the altering in hormone levels within the body.
Pain and discomfort due to cramping are the leading symptoms in preventing a woman from falling asleep while she is menstruating. But experts have offered easy tips women can follow to help them achieve a better night of sleep.
Glamour - Gynecologist - Dr - Lisa - Lindley
When speaking to Glamour, gynecologist Dr. Lisa Lindley explained sleeping positions that can relieve pain and discomfort when trying to sleep while menstruating.
'Sleeping in the fetal position takes pressure off the abdominal muscles,' Dr. Lindley told the publication. She said the fetal position is the best way for a woman to sleep if they are experiencing cramping or other discomforts.
Reason - Position - Discomfort - Muscles - Abdomen
The reason why the fetal position is advised to relieve discomfort is because it allows the skeletal muscles around the abdomen to relax.
Speaking to Teen Vogue, Dr. Jessica Grossman also recommended the child's pose as a position when sleeping at night.
Position - Child - Pressure - Uterus - Muscles
Similar to the fetal position, child's pose relives any pressure from the uterus and the muscles around it to avoid causing any cramping.
Participating in yoga before going to bed can also help soothe the mind and relax the muscles before sleep.
