Paris (CNSNews.com) – French President Emmanuel Macron has launched his campaign for the European Parliament elections with a column published in newspapers across the E.U. saying that Europe was more needed than ever – and in more danger than ever.
“Never since the Second World War has Europe been so necessary,” he wrote in a column, headlined “E.U. Renaissance.”

“And yet never has Europe been in such a danger.”
Macron put forward ideas including better security within Europe’s borders, a European climate bank, an E.U. agency to protect democracies and a “social shield” program incorporating a minimum wage adapted to each of the 28 member-states.

He also proposed the creation of a European Security Council to prepare common E.U. decisions in defense matters, and said Britain should be part of that even after its envisages departure from the union.
Macron suggested further that the Schengen zone – 26 European countries that allow travel free of border controls – be expanded to include Romania and Bulgaria.
Ban - Funding - Parties - Donors - Europe
And he called for a ban on funding of political parties from donors outside Europe.
The article and proposals drew criticism from left and right wing parties in France, and from labor unions opposed to his vision of a new Europe, with many critics saying Macron was all words and no action.

“We have a president who makes a lot of statements but we are waiting for acts,” Philippe Martinez, leader of leftist trade union CGT, said on French television.
“After ‘Make our planet great again,’ he is now saying ‘Make our Europe great again,’” Yannick Jadot, an environmentalist and member of the European Parliament (MEP), told the Le Figaro daily. “ But these are just words, words, words.”
