Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a Cheshire village.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing in the village of Hale Barns, near Altrincham, at about 6.40pm on Saturday.

The 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital, but later died, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said.

His family have been informed and officers are currently with them offering support, the force also confirmed.

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder and were in police custody on Saturday night.

Superintendent Marcus Noden said the circumstances surrounding the boy's death were still being established.
