A few big-name movies are getting swapped across the calendar as studios try and finagle the most bang for their buck. MGM’s Bond 25—which already went through one major switch-up when Cary Joji Fukunaga took over directing duties from Danny Boyle—will now open on April 8, 2020, moving away from its original February 14, 2020 slot. The film is essentially taking the vacated position left by Universal’s still-untitled Fast & Furious 9, which sped off to May 22, 2020 from its original April 10, 2020 premiere date.
Fast 9 will now be battling it out with Godzilla vs. Kong and The Spongebob Movie over Memorial Day Weekend. But the new premiere date gives the film some breathing room in China, where the Fast & Furious franchise performs like gangbusters. The last entry, 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, opened to a massive $184 million in China, which was the country’s highest debut of all time...
