An hour after after a bombshell report Thursday claiming the alleged racist and homophobic attack on “Empire” star Jussie Smollett could be a boax, Chicago Police were already disputing it, as the mysterious case grew even more curious.
Chicago police late Thursday denied reports by a Chicago TV station that Jussie Smollett worked with two men to stage a racist and homophobic assault on himself, allegedly to keep save himself from being written off the show.

Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi said that police cannot confirm the Chicago TV station’s report that Smollett and two other men that the police have been questioning about the alleged attack on the “Empire” actor perpetrated a hoax.
“Media reports (about) the Empire incident being a hoax are unconfirmed by case detectives,” Guglielmi tweeted. “Supt Eddie Johnson has contacted @ABC7Chicago to state on the record that we have no evidence to support their reporting and their supposed CPD sources are uninformed and inaccurate.”

ABC 7 in Chicago tweeted that according to multiple sources the trio orchestrated the attack possibly because Smollet’s character was being written out of the Fox drama.
“BREAKING: Multiple (sources) tell @ABC7Chicago Eyewitness News Jussie Smollet and the 2 men who are being questioned by police staged the attack – allegedly because his character was being written out of the show Empire,” according to the station’s tweet.

Smollett said he was attacked outside of his Chicago apartment in the early morning of Jan. 29.
