Octavia Spencer 'in talks' to join Anne Hathaway in Robert Zemeckis' The Witches remake

Octavia Spencer is 'in talks' to join Anne Hathaway in Robert Zemeckis' darker remake of The Witches due out next year, according to Variety.

If so, the 46-year-old Oscar winner would portray the grandmother made famous by Swedish sensation Mai Zetterling in Nicolas Roeg's 1990 original, who's an 'old adversary' of the Grand High Witch (Hathaway).

Newcomer - Jahzir - Bruno - Atlanta - Protagonist

Newcomer Jahzir Bruno (Atlanta) has already been cast as the orphaned seven-year-old protagonist, who faces off against a coven of witches set on destroying all children.

And Holmes & Watson actor Codie-Lei Eastick, 9; will play the chocolate-loving pal of the lead, who's the first child the Grand High Witch transforms into a mouse.

Hathaway has quite a challenge upstaging Angelica Huston, who endured a painful, eight-hour process of applying prosthetic make-up in order to transform into Ms. Ernst aka 'Hitler for children.'
