Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York unwittingly proved why America needs stronger border security at the State of the Union address by wearing a pin displaying the photograph of a 7-year-old migrant child who died in U.S. custody at the border.
Ocasio-Cortez, along with Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, wore a photo of Jakelin Caal Maquin, the 7-year-old Guatemalan child who died shortly after illegally crossing the border with her father.

Democrats placed the blame for the child’s death on U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which had detained the man and his daughter for crossing the border illegally.
In December, Ocasio-Cortez explicitly blamed the Department of Homeland Security for the child’s heartbreaking death.
