The body of a man found washed up on a beach in Santa Barbara, California, is that of professional 90's surfer, Chris Brown.

Authorities have confirmed that Brown's body washed up on Saturday, about 600 yards east of Arroyo Burro Beach County Park, known by local residents as Hendry's Beach and popular for its quality surf breaks.

Investigations are underway into how Brown died, according to Anthony Wagner, a spokesman for the Santa Barbara Police Department, as reported by the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

Brown was a professional surfer in the 90's winning the Professional Surfing Association of America Championship in 1994, as well as other competitions.

He was also known as a big-wave surfer, picked out for his talent as a teenager, and competing at the junior level before turning pro.
