Sarah Sanders defends Covington Catholic High School teen

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders has come out in defense of the high school student who was accused of harassing a Native American Vietman Veteran following the March For Life in Washington, DC on Friday.

Sanders told Sean Hannity on his Fox News show on Tuesday night, 'I’ve never seen people so happy to destroy a kid’s life.'

She was referring to media coverage of a limited portion of video that showed Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann appearing to confront Nathan Phillips near the Lincoln Memorial, and was characterized as such.

Later, extended video of the situation involving the Kentucky students revealed Phillips had approached Sandmann. Sandmann released a statement saying that he realized later he should have walked away, but thought he was de-escalating what he called a scary situation by standing calmly and smiling.

Many people, including celebrities, jumped on the bandwagon of harsh criticism of the MAGA-hat wearing teen once the short clip was first posted, but later deleted aggressive tweets once more information came out.

However, in speaking out in such grand terms in Sandmann's defense, Sanders then became the subject of ridicule by those highlighting multiple instances in which other young people (many of whom are minorities) were wrongfully condemned, including a full-page ad taken out by now-President Donald Trump in the 1980s (when he was just a business man) calling for the deaths of five teens who were later determined to have been wrongfully imprisoned.
