Twitter overhauls its web interface with new minimalist design (and finally adds an emoji button)

Twitter's website is getting a new look.

The social media giant announced on Tuesday that it's launching a redesigned version of its desktop site that makes it easier to compose tweets and follow conversations.

And there's now a dedicated emoji button in the tweet box that makes it easier for users to describe how they're feeling.

For now, the update appears to be limited to a select number of users, though it's likely it will roll out to everyone soon.

'Some of you got an opt-in to try it now,' the firm wrote in a tweet.

'Check out the emoji button, quick keyboard shortcuts, upgraded trends, advanced search, and more. Let us know your thoughts!'

Twitter first teased that it was redesigning its website last September, noting that it would bringing over many features from the mobile app.

Users are given the choice to update to the new design by clicking on a prompt in the upper right corner of their homepage.

One of the most striking changes of the new design is that there's no longer a three-column design on the homepage.

Instead, there's two columns: a feed of tweets from users you follow, as well as a column on the right with the 'Who to follow' box and a box with that day's trending topics.
