President Trump repeated calls for a wall at the southern border and outlined measures aimed at reopening the federal government in a Saturday speech.
He urged the creation of a wall and steps including $800 million for “urgent humanitarian assistance.” In a bid to win support from Democrats, who have refused to pass a budget with wall funding, he offered to extend protections for immigrants.

In the deal, about 700,000 immigrants known as “Dreamers” would be protected for another three years. Those immigrants, previously covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, came to the US as kids and have proved to be a flashpoint in the debate on immigration.
Trump also offered a three-year extension for about 300,000 people living in the US under Temporary Protected Status, which was granted to people whose native countries were hit with natural disasters and political turmoil.
