We’re gonna have to wait quite a bit longer to see the next film from Richard Linklater. Again. The Boyhood filmmaker’s adaptation of the Maria Semple novel Where’d You Go Bernadette was shot back in 2017 and originally scheduled for release by Annapurna Pictures in May 2018. The film was then pushed back to October 2018, a seemingly more appropriate release date for a Cate Blanchett-fronted character piece directed by Linklater. But then the release date was bumped once more to March 22, 2019, and now Annapurna has changed its mind yet again, pushing the Where’d You Go Bernadette release date to August 9, 2019.
Blanchett plays an artist who suddenly goes missing, leaving it up to her husband and 15-year-old daughter to track her down. The first trailer dropped last month and revealed a much more comedic and potentially commercial film than some were expecting, and per Variety this latest release date move was to take advantage of a date that’s been a solid launching pad for female-driven films like Crazy Rich Asians, Florence Foster Jenkins, and Julia and Julia.
