Michelle Obama looked chic in an all-black ensemble as she surprised a group of female high school students at the African American Museum in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon.

The 54-year-old former first lady was in Philadelphia as part of her 10-city promotional tour for her New York Times bestseller, Becoming, which sold a whopping 1.4 million copies in its first week.

Michelle - Sweater - Pair - Dress - Pants

Michelle donned an off-the-shoulder black sweater tucked into a pair of dress pants, and she tied the outfit together with a thick black corset-style belt.

The fabric wrap that cinched her waist featured white stitching and was closed with two black buttons.

Author - Look - Pair - Toe - Ankle

The author topped off her look with a pair of black pointed toe ankle boots, and she even sported trendy black nail polish to match her ensemble.

A pair of dangly earrings peeked out from her dark curls, which were worn loose around her shoulders, and her diamond engagement ring sparkled on her finger.

Ahead - Talk - Wells - Fargo - Center

Ahead of her scheduled talk at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday evening, Michelle made a surprise visit to the museum to the delight of the local students.

The young women who were in the audience are participants of beGirl.world, a Philadelphia based nonprofit that encourages young women of color to seek opportunities to travel and study abroad.
