California bar shooter fired more than 50 rounds but police do not know his motive

New details from the country bar massacre in California earlier this month have emerged including how many rounds the gunman fired but investigators still have not learned what his motive for the mass shooting was.

On November 8, Ian David Long opened fire on the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, with a Glock 45 pistol.

People

He murdered 12 people then shot himself.

Police are still unable to determine his motive despite interviewing hundreds of people since the massacre happened 20 days ago.

Shots

They now know that in total, Long fired more than 50 shots.

He had seven high capacity magazines, two of which were untouched by the time police got to the scene.

Flashlight - Laser - Sight - Gun - Knife

He had attached a flashlight with a laser sight to his gun and also had a knife which police believe he used to stab one of the shooting victims.

There is no evidence Long was radicalized or that he was targeting an ex-girlfriend at the Borderline Bar and Grill in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, investigators said at the first news conference since the week of the shooting.

'We have no indication of radicalization,' said Paul D. Delacourt, assistant director of the FBI's Los Angeles office, at a press conference on Tuesday, adding: 'We continue to look to identify any motive.'

Officials had said they were looking into the possibility that he was targeting her.

At the start of the attack, he threw multiple smoke grenades into the crowd during the shooting, 'which contributed significantly to the chaos and confusion inside,' Ayub said.
