The first trailer for the much-anticipated Disney screen adaption of Artemis Fowl has arrived.

It opens with aerial views of a vast green forest and a bustling metropolitan city full of skyscrapers as star Judi Dench gives a menacing and foreboding narration.

World - Danger - Human - Greed - Years

'Our world has never been more in danger. Human greed is what drove us underground all those years ago.'

The imagery then turns to the seaside home of genius Artemis Fowl II, a 12-year old boy, played by newcomer Ferdia Shawn, who's a descendant of a long line of criminals.

Escape - Appetite - Dench - Band - Radiohead

'To Escape from your rapacious appetite,' Dench ominously adds with indie-rock band Radiohead's haunting song Decks Dark playing in the background.

Things then turn dark with pictures of a massive tree at night and the silhouettes of Artemis and his butler/bodyguard.
