A 13-year-old boy has been pictured cleaning toilets inside the stadium where UNICEF'S World Children's Day celebrations were taking place.

The sobering photograph shows the schoolboy wearing a hi-vis orange vest over his clothes as he mopped the floors of the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi, India.

As he worked away behind the scenes a group of excited children enjoyed a game of football with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in the main part of the stadium.

He spent the day cleaning the men's bathroom and loading and unloading water canisters during the event.

The unnamed boy, who lives near the stadium with his parents, elder sister and two younger brothers, told the Indian Express that he felt left out of the celebrations, adding: 'I'm not feeling very good.'

He said that his mother sent him to work there for the day and that he would be paid 350 rupees (£3.85) for the shift, which started at 8am and finished at 5pm.
